As you know, we have been reading William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, a play that deals with major human issues like loyalty, revenge, and power. We just finished the death of Julius Caesar and Mark Anonty’s speech to the people of Rome, a speech that is so heavily laced with irony and the rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos, and logos) that it convinced all of the citizens to believe in his cause. Today, you will be comparing yourself to Mark Antony.
Your Task Today:
Rewrite Anonty’s speech from Act III, Scene II in modern language.

Step 1- Think about Anonty’s Position. What would you do if you were in his shoes?
Step 2 – Re-read and evaluate Anonty’s speech. How would this speech be different if it were given today?
Step 3 – Rewrite the speech in today’s language as YOU would write it. How can you convert the speech to today’s language while still maintaining the heavy uses of irony and ethos, pathos, and logos?

A yo, the man we let set an up rowr in our world, has been laid down, put to sleep, and stabed in the back by the very same boys that helped him get to where he was. His last sight was must have gave him an alful fright because it was his mian boy wit a knife in right hand covered in blood. Okay, I’m here to put my friend to rest, to bury him and praise his life. But I guess his life isn’t worthy of praise, or at least that’s what Brutus has said. Brutus is such a respectable, truthful man… and who are we to question what he has said??? Brutus, along with the other members of the Senate brutally stabbed Caesar , killing him in cold-blood. But it must have been well deserved because Brutus, the “golden child of Rome” has said so. Caesar was “on a power trip” and needed to be stopped. And the noble Brutus made sure of it.
Caesar worked hard for our country and did all he could to help everyone in it. He helped both poor and rich. I offered him the chance to be king, quite a few times. He refused, but as Brutus has said… HE WAS GREEDY. Apparently, I was mistaken in believing that Caesar was a great man, because Brutus says otherwise. And we all know that Brutus would NEVER tell a lie.
So, once again I’m not here to make a fool of Brutus and the other Senate members. I’m only here to say good-bye to my good friend. But one thing I do know is that you guys should be mourning him too, because this man did all he could for you. Regardless of what the “honorable Brutus” has said, you all owe him at least that much…
