All for One, One vs. All?

Often times in our society, people act different when they are amongst their peers. This is similar to what happens in All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury, when all of the students gang up on Margot to put her in the closet.

For this blog entry, consider the following questions:
  1. How important is the group feeling for the plot of this story?
  2. Do you think that the children would have treated Margot as they did if there had not been many against one?
  3. What has your own experience, or your reading of this piece, shown you about group behavior versus individual behavior?
  4. What are the dangers – both in the story and real life – of being a part of big groups?

Rubric:
Proficient
– all questions thoroughly answered, each answer is supported with evidence from the text or your life that is cited, each answered with 4 – 6 sentences
Non-proficient – all questions are not answered, each answers lacks support with evidence, answers are less than 4 sentences

The feelings in the story are jealousy, because Margot saw the sun because she was alive to see the sun, and everyone was jealous that margot saw it. They treated margot like very mean! They locked her in a closet. I think if they had all seen the sun things would have been way different meaning they would have all been nice to eachother and would not have locked margot in the closet they prob would have all got along! This showed me people can be very ignorant exspecially if they have someone to back them up because it makes you feel like your the outkast when your realy not! People get jealous so they feel as though they need to treat people very poorly when they shouldnt. Peple can be so mean they can make people really depressed and thats not right and if a group does it they feel like they are not welcomned and no one should ever feel like that.

i think the group feeling in this plot is very discriminating, because margot waz just being herself and they basically "shund" her because she wasnt like the rest of the group.

not really because if it waz all against one then it makes it so easy to over power someone, but if its just one person by themselves against someone else they might do anything because they dont feel as strong as a group of people.

from personal experience i can tell if that there is a group of people against one person then they will do anything to make u cry get angry etc. but if its just one person then you have more of a chance of beating them instead of them beating you.

the dangers of being in a group is that say if you are in a group and you do something to some one and that they tell on you. they you and your whole entire group will get in trouble including you.

the group feelin in the story is that no matter what you do to someone especially if its bad then you realize that what youve done makes you feel terrible and guilty. i think that no matter what everyone has a guilty concious (i dont know how to spell it :)) i personally think that if there wasnt a main bad person in the story that not everyone woould be so against her because this show that most people in the world are follwers because to be honest if there wasnt a main person many people wouldnt do what they do know and a perfect example for that would be gang members if there wasnt a leader there wouldnt be followers. through my own experience when someone is around a group of people whether they are good or bad it can be a big influence on how they act compared to how they act by themselves. for instance ive been pressured into skipping class plenty of times im not going to mention any names but i have been at times i wanted to because then they would say somethin like " oh i dont like you any more" or "if u loved me youd do it" and "i thought we were bestfriends" when people tell you something like that you end up second guessin yourself and think should i really but then again you think about the consequences and then your like a deer in the headlights not being able to know what to do about the situation. one of the main dangers of being in a group temporairly or permantently is the thing about gettin in trouble. trouble with being in groups isnt jus a slap on the risk it can be gettin killed, injured, threated to the point where you have to wath out not only for yourselfb ut for your family and friends because whom ever is after you will use the people that you love and care for against you.

The feelings of the story are jealousy and anger. All the kids were jealous and mad that Margot got tho see and experience the sun. She remembered what it looked like and felt like and they didnt. If they remembered then the story feeling would of probably been happy and not have kids discriminate others.
In the story many kids teased and picked on a girl named Margot. If it was just one on one, Margot and one oterh kid, then she might have not been discriminated because when people are in a group they try to act cool and funny by discriminating others but they are not funny or cool. It makes them jerks.
I know that when people are in groups they attented to be jerks. They think they are cool and their friends encourage them, which is not right. Its not fsir when they do. When people are one on one then they are not as bad to the person because they figure no one is there to see it and tease them. If they think that they are a leader then why don't they lead their friends into being nice?
When people discriminate against others it can lead to dangerous things. It can lead to violence. It can lead to that because the one kid can get tired of being treated like trash and will snap. Also when someone sees someone else discriminating people they will follow them and do it to becasue they wont have the guts to be a leader and be nice to people. They are scared of being teased when they shouldn't be. Just ignore them and stand up for yourself and you'll feel good about yourself and make a change.

I think the group feeling is the most important in the story because, i dont think the outcome of the story would be the same if it was just person vs. person or group vs. group. I think if it was just person vs. person both of the people involed would most likely be friend in the end because they dont have them extra people in there ear trying to keep the problem going. And if it was like group vs. group the the problem would ever get sovled and i would most likely turn into a bigger problem because every one is going to have something to say about the other group and it is always going to be that one person in the group keeping the conflict going.

I dont think the kids would have treated Margot like that if there havent been many against one. i think they prolly would have been a little nicer to her if there were less people one the antagonist side.

It shows me that people in a group feel more in powered because they are in a group, and the individual person feels more alone and less in power because they are just one person.

Ther dangers of being in a big group are the problem and trouble that comes with being in a large group. i think when you a apart of a large group you are likely to get in more trouble and turn in the wrong direction. More fights, more school trouble, grade trouble an before you know it you might end up in jail.

The group feeling of the story was very "all for one and one for all" kind of theme, margot is alone and being discriminated against because shes different.I think personally that if she had some people on her side , or some individuals that thought and had the same interests and likings as her. I think the over all situation would have been different. my perspective on the story was , i cldnt believe they wld tease this girl all because she was a little different, but i wasnt shocked because i our world the same discrimination is going on. i think that bieng in a group of people that all think the same is good, but i also think its wrong, because someone that might think different, but might be alone , will get sucked i to the group because the feel over powered by that group. its like " if you cant beat them, join them ".

The groups feel jelous of Margot because she remembers more than the other do. The Group feels mad upset cause they think that everything she said is not true so the group stared to be mean to her. The children would have treated her same because they are mad that they don’t remember. My own experience is that im scared that people would laugh at me when I am presenting a project. I get the feeling a lot and I can imagine it n it’s just scary. The danger is that someone can get hurt emotionally and physical. They were basically bullying her and that’s against the law.

The groups feeling rage, and jealousy. They would not have treated her that way if it wasn't that many people. They all had different bad opinions on Margot. More people came to be more strength and more hating on Margot.

It shows me that people in a group feel more in powered because they are in a group, and the individual person feels more alone and less in power because they are just one person. Being part of a big group can be bad because if one go down the whole group can go down. If it's not a positive gruop the outcome of the group will end up in bad situations.
