This week we will be experimenting with blogging, on our class blog, once again. Your assignment will be very similar to last week's assignment. The idea is to get everyone familiar and comfortable with writing on our class blog. Once we have accomplished that, we will be begin to experiment with different style of blog entries.

- A. The Title and Artist of a poem/song that you believe depicts the values of a specific culture.
- B. The lines that depict the values of that culture.

My poem explains a mother's joy in giving birth to her baby girl. This poem is called Birth Day. I think this is a beautiful poem. It talks about how proud she is of her baby girl who just entered into the world.
A."Culture"
B."Cryptic culture,
Cultic culture,
Consumer culture,
Fake culture,
Pretentious culture,
Freedom robbing culture,
World destroying culture,
Live your culture.
Find yourself.
Have your veracity.
The state of which
Is just another culture."
C.This poem proves that everyone's culture is different. I know that it says that because it mention different cultures in it.
D.
A. The Fight - Kara Chernushin Riccitelli
B. Bloody, broken, bruised, and branded,
Fractured ribs, the punch has landed.
Battered, wounded, twisted legs,
"Let me go!" the victim begs.
Now doubled over, spitting teeth,
His mother screams, consumed with grief.
Show no mercy, fight to death,
Till a broken body's all that's left.
There's no reason, none at all,
To cause this high-aimed youth to fall.
"Help me! Help me!" He gasps and cries,
But knows they'll beat him till he dies.
Pathetic soul left all alone,
Bloody face, shattered bones.
The mother wails, "It's not his time!"
They will pay for this vicious crime.
With no regret, remorse, or sorrow,
The gang will strike again tomorrow.
Now roses lie upon the grave,
Cherished friend we could not save.
C. I cant pick just one line from the poem. I think that this whole poem reflects our cruel society. All we hear today is about killings and fighting.
D. This poem makes me think about my friend muriah huff and her boyfriend who were recently killed due to gang violence. The poem says, "With no regret, remorse, or sorrow,
The gang will strike again tomorrow." No matter what you do these gang members are still gonna strike. They dont care if you're someones mother father son or daughter. Today our society seems to be more violent then i can ever remember. "Bloody, broken, bruised, and branded,Fractured ribs, the punch has landed." - This line makes the poem better. It actually gives me a chance to visualize the way this person was beat. It shows you the cruel some people can be.
A. Toris Okotie (The African Poet) NY
B. My African Child
So young in heart
He cried for milk
So poor and helpless
Mama weeps in pain
His eyes so red
A week he cried
To the world he came
Mama so young
Papa has run
Under the bridge
They lay their heads
In storm and rain
They search for food
Through man and sex
Mama fed him well
The days went by
Mama health decreased
Only five months old
Mama said goodbye
In rain and cold
He cried so loud
In sun and heat
He wept and wept
Three days gone by
Since mama left
And now he sleeps
To meet with mama
C. The depiction of the poem show how a mom has a new born baby and is having trouble taking care of it. The father walked out on them while the baby was still very young. The mom is tying her hardest to care of the baby and is still stuggling with all her problems. They time goes by and she dies and all the baby is left to do is the same to meet her once more and then you know there will be no worries any more.
D. It relates to our society by telling us how fathers all around walk out on there babies and wifes. How the mother stuggles to give the baby that she has everything it needs to have a healthy life. When no one is there to help out when she needs it most. When she gets sick and gets close to death the baby will be alone to die. No one will be there to take it in and give it a safe home
A. "I Am Not My Hair " by India Arie
B. "Just tryin to be appreciated, Nappy headed brothas never had no latest, Then i hit the barber shop real quick, Had em' gimmie a little twist and it drove them crazy, And then i couldn't get no job, This corporate would hire no dreadlocks...Was it the hair that got me this far?, All these girls these crib these cars, I hate to say it but it seem so flaw, 'Cause success didn't come til i cut it all off..."
C. This song describes people of the African American culture that can't get any where because of how they look. Society today is all about image. India Arie explains how she is not her hair, even though it may b nappy, rough etc, she is not that. People need to look at what's inside a person that the outside
D. This songs is title "I Am Not My Hair". The name itself is and inspiration to people that may feel like they don't have a way out because their appearance. From experience, my first time listening made me think "i'm not perfect, no matter what people think about me i am who i am."
A. "Black or White" by Michael Jackson
B."See, It's Not About Races
Just Places
Faces
Where Your Blood
Comes From
Is Where Your Space Is
I've Seen The Bright
Get Duller
I'm Not Going To Spend
My Life Being A Color"
C.This is a clear description about our culture as the United States. The reason is because back then they din't let black and white drink from the same water fountain . Now we can even go to school together.
D.This reference to the social values is really good towards the enviroment. The reason because Michael Jackson is a big person in our society and him making a song about how he feels will make others think the same.
A: "the return to innocence" by Enigma
B:"Don't be afraid to be weak
Don't be too proud to be strong
Just look into your heart my friend
That will be the return to yourself
The return to innocence" lyrics
C: This set of lyrics is talking about no matter what postion you are in War , everyday lives,or death. You can relieve yourself the pain. You can stay strong and Nobody is alone. Everyone went throught it atleast once in there lives.I would use this song for war because they go through a lot of deaths and their friends are killed in action to defend this country. When you hear this it reasures them they are going to be ok. Only way to feel better is to move on but carry them in their hearts. They won't be forgotten.
D:The song is relaxing but it says to keep going and don't stand still. The right way is to believe you can overcome the bad. These lyrics say it all."That's not the beginning of the end
That's the return to yourself
The return to innocence".
A: dreams by langston hughes
B: Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
C: this here peoms about how the black culture can come to see amny struggles and how if u let dream go they'll have you lost
(A)Marine Grave inscription on Guadalcanal, 1942
The Soldiers Prayer
"And When He Gets To Heaven,
To Saint Peter He Will Tell;
One More Marine Reporting Sir,
I've Served My Time In Hell"
This shows the kind of action that our military sees. This shows the average person in society going from civilian to soldier. These values are violence.
The way this poem sounds, makes people see that what our soldiers are going through is obviously bad. The people that run our government is letting this happen. This makes other countries look at our country as different then we are. By our military going into different countries makes our society look bad. Other countries think of our society as violent, barbaric, and heartless people. On an everyday basis, I see others as well as myself hold doors open, pick-up droppen items, and be polite. Obviously this is not the same as depicted by other countries
A."Let There Be New Flowering"by Lucille Clfiton
B.let there be new flowering
in the fields let the fields
turn mellow for the men
let the men keep tender
through the time let the time
be wrested from the war
let the war be won
let love be
at the end
C.This is a clear de piction of how people in the world the want the war to be over.War is ever where.there is always getting killed in a war every day.
